A few months ago I shot an assignment in Tempe along Apache Blvd., the same road where a new lightrail transit system is being built. Because of the new transit system the land where people have made their homes in trailer parks and motels has become prime for development. The assignment I shot was for a daily story about officials in Tempe trying to help the residents in the trailer parks by giving them more time to move out if a developer decides to close out the trailer park. I’ve had an interest in communities like these and I’m fascinated by the effects of development. The use of the land changes, the dynamics of the area changes, and the lives of the people in the area changes. Naturally, I want to pursue this as a long term project. In fact, it’s the first long-term project I’ve pursued in a long time. But I’m interested in opening up the process to my friends, mentors and whoever else may happen upon this blog. So check back and follow with me as I continue to visit this ever changing neighborhood.
